Wat is DALI 3-fase rails?

What is DALI and how does it work?

DALI is a digital control protocol that lets you dim and switch fixtures individually or in groups. On a 3-phase track system, the rail carries not only mains power but also a data line. This allows you to create zones and lighting scenes, and to rearrange fixtures later without additional cabling. Want to start with the basics? Read our guide on 3-fase railverlichting.

When should you choose DALI?

DALI makes sense when you need more than one light level for the entire space. Think of shops with frequently changing displays, restaurants with different moods (lunch, dinner, cleaning), or showrooms with separate zones. For a fixed setup with one dim level, a standard 3-phase track is usually enough.

What do you need?

  • DALI-compatible 3-phase track (6-conductor, often called “DALI” or “Control”).
  • Fixtures with DALI adapters (note: a regular 3-phase adapter will not enable DALI functions).
  • DALI control gear such as a PSU, control panel or gateway to an app/BMS.
  • Connectors and end caps that match your track system.

Compatibility and tips

Not all systems are interchangeable. Always check whether the adapter really supports DALI and whether the track’s mechanical key and polarity match. A normal 3-phase adapter may power on a DALI track but won’t allow individual dimming. To be safe, choose rail, connectors and adapters from the same family or ask for our advice.
